Mechanical Engineer

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Development: Develop mechanical designs for various projects, including HVAC systems, piping, structural components, and mechanical assemblies, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and industry standards.

  • Project Support: Collaborate with project teams to provide mechanical engineering input on design, specification, and execution of mechanical systems.

  • Analysis & Calculations: Perform mechanical system calculations (e.g., stress analysis, thermal analysis, fluid dynamics) to ensure systems are optimized for performance, safety, and efficiency.

  • Prototyping & Testing: Oversee the development and testing of prototypes and components, conducting mechanical testing to validate designs before full-scale production.

  • Documentation: Produce and maintain detailed engineering documentation including technical specifications, CAD drawings, reports, and procedures.

  • Vendor & Supplier Liaison: Work closely with suppliers and manufacturers to source components, ensuring cost-effective solutions and quality compliance.

  • Health & Safety: Ensure designs and installations meet relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, including conducting risk assessments and adhering to safety protocols.

  • Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to enhance mechanical systems, improve efficiency, and reduce costs through design modifications or process improvements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree: A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) from a recognized institution.

  • Experience: 3-5 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in [specific industry, e.g., building services, industrial systems, manufacturing, etc.].

  • Software Skills: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) and mechanical design tools; knowledge of simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL) is a plus.

  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of mechanical systems design, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and material science.

  • Project Management: Experience in supporting or managing the technical aspects of mechanical engineering projects from design to completion.

  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with multidisciplinary teams and clients.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex mechanical systems.

Desired Skills and Attributes:

  • Adaptability: Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining high standards of work.

  • Team Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team, while also being able to take initiative when required.

  • Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in design and implementation, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with standards.

  • Certifications: Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) with Engineers Ireland is an advantage.

  • Continuous Learning: Eagerness to stay up to date with emerging trends in mechanical engineering and industry standards.
